Bristol’s Clean Air Zone starts operating later this year and we want to make sure everyone is prepared in good time.

You may be eligible for financial support if you live or work in Bristol and your vehicle does not meet the emission standards of the zone. Check your vehicle now using the government’s online Clean Air Zone Checker.

Our £42 million support scheme is designed to significantly reduce the final cost of replacing or adapting vehicles for people on low incomes and small to medium sized businesses.

Who can apply for loans and grants?

Individuals

If you work in the zone and earn less than £26,000, you’ll be prioritised in our first round of funding.

This limit will increase to £27,000 later this year.

Businesses

Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed people based in the zone will be prioritised for business grants. A SME is any business with up to 250 employees.

Depending on how many loans and grants are given out, we may extend this to other businesses and organisations.

Priority for Bristol residents and businesses

We are prioritising individuals, sole traders, charities and small businesses located in the Bristol City Council area and neighbouring areas, or with premises in the zone.

Save money

For many individuals or businesses, upgrading to a vehicle that meets the zone’s emission standards could be a cost-effective alternative to paying the charge over the longer term.
